Youth Program
Through this program, youth find a place where they can come together to learn, grow, and contribute to our community’s well-being. Our program is more than just a gathering; it’s an opportunity to engage with peers, gain valuable life skills, and connect with our incredible senior mentors.
Mentorship by Seniors:
Our unique program features mentorship by our experienced seniors, providing valuable guidance and knowledge to the younger generation. This intergenerational exchange promotes mutual understanding, respect, and a deeper appreciation of cultural heritage.
Crime Prevention and Empowerment:
At SVIA, we take youth empowerment seriously. Our activities include workshops on crime prevention, ensuring that our junior members are equipped with the knowledge and skills to make informed choices and stay away from gangs and drugs. We believe in fostering a safe and supportive environment where young people can flourish.
Community Involvement and Volunteering:
We encourage our youth to take part in SVIA’s events and initiatives. Volunteering not only instills a sense of responsibility but also teaches the importance of community involvement. It’s an opportunity to work alongside our seniors and fellow peers while contributing to the betterment of our community.
Exploring Culture through Arts:
Our Youth Program also delves into the rich Swahili culture through engaging workshops in music, drama, and dance. These artistic expressions help portray the beauty of Swahili culture and language, fostering an appreciation for diversity and creativity.
Swahili Descent Youth Engagement Program:
The youth has a vital role to play in society, influencing its growth in social, political, and economic spheres. Recognizing this, SVIA organizes the Swahili Descent Youth Engagement Program. This initiative offers Swahili language training, poetry, storytelling, dance, music, and sports to encourage productivity and prepare the youth for a bright future.
The program is well-received in the Swahiliphones community, bringing together Canadian youth, immigrants, and refugees interested in Swahili Cultural Heritage. Through public and cultural programs like arts and dance, the program aims to implement a “learn with fun approach” by bringing artists to teach the youth about the arts, fostering understanding and collaboration.
Preparation of Swahili Day/Festival:
The Swahili youth and all individuals interested in Swahili Cultural Heritage will be actively involved in preparing the Swahili Day/Festival, an annual event open to the public. This event provides opportunities for the youth to showcase Swahili traditional games, take part in Swahili reading competitions, and connect with their Swahili roots. The festival empowers the youth through leadership experiences, encouraging participation in talent shows, and emphasizing their role as leaders of future society.
Preventing Substance Experimentation:
SVIA’s program is also a proactive approach to steer youth away from the experimentation of psychoactive substances, including alcohol and drugs, which poses a significant risk to their lives and future. Through education and engagement, we aim to guide the youth onto the right track, helping them understand, protect, and enhance their cultural heritage while embracing positive changes in society.
Belief in the Future:
The Swahili Vision International Association believes strongly that the youth is the future of a successful society. If you’re a young individual eager to make a difference, we invite you to contact us to learn more about our upcoming events and how you can get involved.
